The Biblical Truth about LGBTQ+
Apr 15, 2022
Some topics are a point of contention for many. Hesitation is often seen when discussing the LGBTQ+ community. However, I want to start by showing some common concerns.
It is seen in the media, in most of its forms, that the LGBTQ+ community is discussed with “respect”. These individuals are treated as if they make up a large percentage of people in our country and we are to accept and cater to those who live in such ways.
First, let’s notice some well-published facts. The current population of the United States is over 332 million people. With all the attention this community receives you are made to feel that they make up most of the population, but this is not true: Transgender 1%, Gay or Lesbian 3%, Bisexuals 4%. Clearly in the media and the government the “squeaky wheel” is getting all the attention it wants.
Second, those who are supporters of this lifestyle no longer encourage only “tolerance” but acceptance and, much more than just that. Businesses can no longer hire the individual they deem qualified and must be cautious about whose employment they terminate. Tolerance is out, indoctrination is clearly in.
Third, those who choose to live this sinful lifestyle open themselves up to diseases, depression, anxiety, and confusion. Why, because going against nature has its consequences (Romans 1:26).
What does the Bible teach about these lifestyles? While some would like to condone these sinful ways of living, what the Bible teaches and warns about such ways of life hasn’t changed.
“ If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.” Leviticus 20:13
"A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the LORD your God.” Deuteronomy 22:5
“For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.” Romans 1:26-27
We could also discuss Sodom, Gomorrah and the cities of the plains. The Bible tells why they were destroyed (Genesis 18 & 19).
The scriptures are clear about such sinful lifestyles. So, what has changed? Has God’s opinion of such things suddenly changed? Does God now condone sin that He once so clearly condemned? It seems obvious that what has happened is that man has decided to condone all manner of sin and support those who do so.
However, things weren’t always this way. There was a time where such lifestyles were condemned, in both the medical and mental health arenas, as well as publicly by others.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) — classified homosexuality as a mental illness in the past. In 1952, it had classified the term as a “sociopathic personality disturbance”, and again in 1963.
Consider that Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, at one time held the belief that homosexuality was caused by family and development issues. Notice where the changes take place - with man, not with God. The Biblical truth regarding these chosen lifestyles haven’t changed.
Today, Christians should do what we can, when able, to reach these lost souls. They are souls and they are worthy to hear the truth, just like any other person in sin. Abraham pleaded for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah until their rebellion could no longer be allowed to continue (Genesis 18).
Let us reach out to these lost souls with the gospel and encourage them to consider their ways. Not only do researchers and other health professionals (Johnson & Masters) admit that those seeking help do overcome these ways of living (over 60%) and live an honorable life but so does the Bible.
Remember the words of the apostle Paul:
“ Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Friends, let’s do what we can to reach any lost soul looking for the light out of the darkness of sin.
