Another important aspect of happiness is not dwelling on the past.
And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? Luke 12:25
Christ reminded us that worrying does not help the Christian. We ought not to worry about what may or may not happen and it is foolish to worry about that which has already taken place. It cannot be changed so worry cannot change it.
The Past is the Past
No matter how hard we try we cannot change the past. If it is sin that haunts us, we should know that if we repented then God has removed that blot from our lives.
As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
We learn from our mistakes and errors but we gain little by dwelling on our past mistakes.
If it’s the joys of the past that we miss….
We cannot relieve the past, we must live “in the now”. We must focus on today. If we want to have a happy life now we cannot live backwards, we cannot continue to live in the past.
Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 2Pe 3:13-14
If it is the passing pleasures of sin we miss we ought to repent. A Christian should
have no desire to turn back to sin, back to the world.
3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles —when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. 1Pe 4:3
Make God Your #1 Priority
We should pray more-we can never pray enough. Prayer is probably the most unused avenue that the Christian has.
pray without ceasing, 1Th 5:17
We are commanded to pray for one another and those who have sinned
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Jam 5:16
Attend the Services of the Saints
One of the most basic ways to show our faith in God is also the most neglected
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Heb 10:24-25
Though the many find excuses to not attend as they should (“as is the manner of some”);
those who truly love the Lord find the first day of the week to truly be the best day of
In conclusion, we can be happy if we pursue it in a godly manner.
We can be happy. Christians have more reasons than any to be happy. To be truly happy we must be on the Lord’s side 100%.
then Moses stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, "Whoever is on the Lord's side— come to me!" And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. Exo 32:26
Are you pursuing happiness in a way that is pleasing to God?
