The hardest battles we will ever fight, will be in the mind, not on a battle field. Consider the words of the apostle Paul in Romans 7:17-20:
“For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
For the good that I would, I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.”
Sometimes as Christians we are fighting a battle, a mind battle. We lose our temper, our jealousy gets the best of us, we covet something someone else has, we get involved in things that are ungodly.....whatever.....and it overwhelms us, maybe even overtakes us. That is when we need God the most, when we need to pray the hardest, and when we need to spend more time meditating upon His Word.
Paul presented a problem for us to consider, but he also gave us some instructions on how to combat those forces of evil. We can read His inspired words in Ephesians 6:10-18. We have no reason to be floundering about with a divided mind when God gave us everything we need that pertains unto life and Godliness (2 Peter 1:3).
